ID 2007

Just before christmas the DCLG released a new version of the Indicies of Deprivation (also called the Index of Multiple Deprivation:IMD) called the ID2007 to replace and compare with the ID2004. we fairly rapidly re-wrote a version of our ID2004 report to use this data but have been carrying out testing to make sure there were no problems, we havn't found any yet so we are releasing this today along with a new set of thematic layers corresponding to this data set. This report is available for all geographies, this is something we are quite proud of as we havn't found anyone getting close to being able to offer this sort of functionality. We hope you find it useful!

We will shortly be added some more population projections (including historical ones) and adding Lower SOA's as a selectable geography.

We hope you find them helpful!
New Graphs for Reports

We have now updated many of the charts with the Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), ID2004 (indices of deprivation 2004) and the Crime Reports, this applies to both draw your own area and the standard areas (Wards, etc.)

Some of them are minor fixes where the was a problem for instance where the number of cases dropped below 10 for a particular category. Some of graphs are completely new like the Radar graphs and some are enhancemnts to the existing graphs like the addition of a smoothed "average" for the JSA graphs.

This has been made possible by the purchase of some new graphing technology that builds upon the graphs facilities within our existing software and we hope to update more of the reports and make use increased use of this, all with the goal of making the data more useful for our users.

If you have any ideas or comments on the new graphs or different ways of visualising the data then we would be keen to hear from you.

Proposed Constituency Boundaries

Since the ward boundary review the Wards and Constituency boundaries were no longer coterminous (i.e. lined up) this has meant that some wards have been spread between 2 or more constituencies, in addition the demographic profile of the district has altered as areas have been regenerated and buildings knocked down/built. For these reason the boundary commission for England carried out a boundary review.
The review has made a recommendation and it is expected that an order will be made such that they will be used for the next general election. It should be noted however that that existing boundaries are still in effect until the next general election takes place.
Available are the standard range of reports.

2000 to 2006 Income Support report for "My Areas"

The 2000 to 2006 Income Support report gives an insight into the number of claimants between the age of 16-59 who have a low income, don't have savings of £16,000 or more, or not working or work on average less than 16 hours a week, or are unable to work because they are:

A Lone parent

Registered sick or disabled

A student and either a lone parent or disabled

Or caring for someone who is sick or elderly

The report displays the information for each quarter; it is split into the different age categories i.e 16-24, 25-49, 50-59 and 60 and over's, it also shows the number of claimants by Male and Female totals, whether the claimant is single or with a partner, the length of the claim and which income support premium the claimaint is on i.e The Incapacity Benefit Premium, The Lone Parent Premium or The Carer's Premium. The data is then reprsented graphically on line graphs for each category, the data is also shown on comparison charts, so a comparison can be made between the different categories.

It is based on the data released by the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), the data was released at LSOA (Lower Super Output Area) which is then disaggregated to resident postcodes, based on the population and then reagregated back up to the requested area on the fly.

2002 to 2006 Crime Data report for "My Areas"

The BCSP Crime Data report is based on the Crime Domain used in the ID2004 report. The Crime Domain consists of 33 categories of recorded crime which are then grouped to form 4 composite indicators: burglary, criminal damage, theft and violence. This report gives an insight into the number of offences committed within the selected area and compares this with the Bradford district. The data is displayed for each year by composite indicator, the total number of offences and the Rate Per 1000 and is then represented graphically on line graphs for each composite indicator.

Maps and Stats available as a Blog

You may have noticed that this page has changed a little bit, the updates for updated reports, layers and functionality are now being delivered in a blog format, this has a number of advantages over the old static pages:

It allows you to register for updates using an RSS reader so you don't have to keep coming back to check for updates.

Because we can now categories each update you can choose to subscribe only to updates about the new Reports, or many be just Data Layers!

You can now comment on any update, tell us whats good, what bad and any mistakes that might have creeped it!

ID2004 Report Available

A report based on the Government Indices of Deprivation 2004 has been turned on in the BCSP application, this allows you to draw any area and get an indication of the ID2004 Rank for the overall score and each of the domains. Because of the way the ID2004, areas above 1500 people (the average size of Lower SOA's, the level the data was supplied at) will likely show levels of deprivation as closer to the overall mean as the peaks and troughs in deprivation will be "smoothed" out. It is however useful to define your own areas and compare them with similar sized areas.

The 1991 to 2006 Job Seekers Allowance report for "My Areas" (also known as Draw Your Own Area) gives an insight into the number of claimants under pensionable age who are available for, and actively seeking, work of at least 40 hours a week. The report displays the information for each quarter; it is split into the different age categories i.e 16-24, 25-49 and 50 and Over's and also shows the number of claimants by Male and Female totals. The data is then reprsented graphically on line graphs for each category, the data is also shown on comparison charts, so a comparison can be made between the different categories.

It is based upon the data released by the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), the data was released at LSOA (Lower Layer Super Output Area) level which is then disaggregated to resident postcodes, based on the population and then reagreegated back up to the requested area on the fly.

Travel to work report available

A new report has been added to the BCSP (Bradford Community Statistics Project). The 2001 Travel to Work report for "My Areas" (also known as Draw Your Own Area) gives an insight into the commuters that work and live in the area, including details of the mix of transports methods (Car, Bus, Train, etc.), where they travel to and from (by local authority) and how far the travel. This will of course be useful for those interested in transport, the environment, economic development and contingency planning, it also illustrates how our duty of care to Bradford residents extends to preventing harm coming to them beyond our administrative boundary. It is based upon the Origin-Destination Matrices released by the ONS (Office of National Statistics), the data was released at OA (Output Area) level which is then disaggregated to resident postcodes, based on the population and then reagreegated back up to the requested area on the fly.

BCSP Updates for 30/7/04

NEW Ethnic Group Themes at OA that illustrate the distribution of Ethnic Groups within Bradford District. If there is data from the Census (or other data sources) that you feel could be usefully mapped in this way, please contact us.

NEW Graphs added to 2001 Census Report, at the moment there are no plans to extend this to other reports, however if you feel there is a need for them please contact us and providing their is sufficent demand we will add them.

NEW Middle Layer Super Output Areas added (Lower Layer Super Output Areas are already in the system).

NEW Indices of Deprivation 2004, available at SOA level, which is are a lot smaller than the wards that previous IMD2001. In addition to the overall deprivation score, each of the "domains" have their own maps as have the 20% most and least deprived SOA'S nationwide. Finally hovering the muse pointer over an area gives you information about the score and the rank amongst all of the SOA's in England.

NEW 2001 Population density map, available at the much finer level reduced postcode level rather than the 1991 Population density map only at the much blunter Census ED's. Additionally hovering the mouse pointer over a postcode when zoomed in gives further information. The postcode areas have been "cropped" to the residential areas so that for example postcodes which consist of an small area of residential area and a much larger area of fields has been reduced to the residential area. Therefore the population density is of the density of people in the residential area. NOTE: Because of the quantity of data with this layer turned on the map may be slow to appear or update.

NEW Local Authority and Regeneration Areas added to the map including the new Area Committee boundaries.

NEW Map printing, right click on the map and select print->print from Popup Menu.
